... My opinion about HINDUISM - It's a way of leading life and not a religion.
I had my training today at one of the labs and took a taxi- apparently driven by a Indonesian.
He say my brown colour skin and the company lanyard around neck and asked " Are you an INDIAN?". I said yes. I see that many INDIANs who are here are either Doctors or IT Engineers - I knew this was coming up. i said yes- they are quite popular professions back in INDIA. "Are you an Hindu as well" was the next question. I said Yup!. I am one. He said " your religion sounds funny". You have so many festivals and you have so many obligations. I said " we really don't follow many of them" - "but Hindus in Bali follow many and they find its affecting them economically and work wise- they don't get time and money to spend in temples and offerings". I said" there is no regulation for offerings". He then said " I was watching the other day SBS tv. they said there are 50 million people who cleanse their sins in Ganges - what do you think about them ", I politely said " they are polluting the water and nothing else" I continued" In our religion we have a god form of everything- what ever has life has a god form and hence we have 3 crore gods.. you believe in one god , but we see god in everything and hence that number..Ganga is water which is considered pure as it flows down from Himalayas.. people are stupid enough not to think cleansing implies ' being pure' and not bathing in water and pollute it". He was convinced but continued " .. and people who are not rich to burn the body- just throw it away" , I said" people bend the rules for their convenience, in our religion, body and soul are two different entities , when someone dies, the soul leaves the body to take another body and hence the old body should be burnt not left to stink in Ganga". He then asked me one final question when I felt ashamed to answer , it was " there was this homosexual couple in Melbourne who wanted a baby, they went to INDIA and a lady was ready to act as surrogate mother and a doctor performed the operation , it's like birth machine". I felt ashamed, I did not know what to say - how to defend a country which doesn't approve Homosexual weddings Judiciary but allow doctors to breed babies in surrogacy. The doctor further said " its science". The cab driver went on- ' I think it's wrong , a sin , I am a Christian , but I think every religion believes has a rule and when broken it disrupts the nature, when that baby grows up - it is confused who is father who is mother". I could not agree more . I got down at lab , thinking what an impression the world has on us .
Although we have already had a conversation about this, I guess the driver was a nice guy. I might question where his inquisitiveness came from. But it makes me sad that there still are many things in India we should be ashamed off... and god damn it! We are not doing any thing about them!!!
ReplyDeleteHis inquistiveness came form the common notion what everyone has about Hinduism.
